Air Miles Has Ensured Tighter Security Mechanism For Account Holders

July 7, 2017

air-miles1

The world can finally rejoice now that Air Miles have ended the previous ban on points that can be redeemed at outlet stores. A couple of months ago, airlines were shocked when hackers managed to get into the system of participating stores last month. After the hack took place there was a lot of uncertainty because of lack of security. People felt that their personal information and their frequent flyer mile accounts were vulnerable in the face of these hackers. To ensure that right steps were being taken to ensure that security never becomes an issue again Air Miles had promised a stronger security mechanism. Now, they have finally fulfilled their promise to their clients and members.

1. The New Safety Measures

The new mechanism that has been developed by Air Miles focuses on a stricter online safety measures. The only downside to the statement was that Air Miles did not reveal the names of the hackers who stole Cash Miles, nor did they reveal any of their details either.

The new safety mechanism ensures security and is not open to vulnerable attacks from any party. They have made sure that their IT team is always on top of their game and overlooking the system as much as humanly possible. According to Air Miles, it is impossible for Cash Miles or Frequent Flyer miles to be stolen or misused by hackers in the future. Personal information of members is secure and their accounts are safe as well.

2. No Need For Panic

Those who sell miles should not panic because there is nothing to worry about. They can still happily sell miles and buy frequent flyer miles. Air Miles did not include or target them in their security system. Air Miles security reforms do not target those who sell or buy miles either. It is worth noting that there is a minor change that started from April. A cap of $50 has been placed on every account holder by Air Miles. This is because Air Miles wants to tighten retail store purchases. Otherwise, Air Miles has been continuously been encouraging members to use their Cash Miles account as often as possible. Since security threat in March, Air Miles has been insisting that its members and clients use their PIN numbers. Again, this is only because they want to take as many precautions against security threats.

Air Miles has been diligent with their security since the March cyber-attack because March was not the first time they experienced a security breach in their system. In February, a retailer named Loblaw faced a similar security threat to its system. The grocery store was saddened when points were stolen from member’s accounts and redeemed by an unknown individual. They resolved the system by asking their account holders to make stronger passwords and tweaking their usernames.

3. What The Future Holds

There are eleven million active accounts in Air Miles system and they know they have a huge responsibility to insure that their members points and personal information is not violated in anyway. They have taken this matter very seriously and have made sure that collectors can still sell miles easily and effectively.
